It is commonplace that seekers of justice expect simple and effective trials, and rightfully so. Civil proceedings, however, have been facing ever-growing pressures in recent years, particularly from Covid-19 restrictions and a fast-paced drive for digitalization. Lawmakers, lawyers and judges are not alone in their pursuit of appropriate responses, for scholars must also rise to the occasion.
Benefiting from the honorary patronage of the International Union of Judicial Officers (UIHJ), the Department of Law at the Ovidius University of Constanța has joined forces with the Constanța Regional Chamber of Judicial Officers to hold an international conference on ‘the making of a simple and effective civil procedure’ with the aim of identifying appropriate solutions in the legislation, legal literature and case law of various legal systems.
The organisers welcome original high-quality contributions on this topic (individual papers and/or panel proposals) from Romania or abroad. The working languages of the conference are English and French. There is no registration fee, but prospective authors ought to submit proposals within the timetable set out below. The conference proceedings are set for publication with Larcier, an international publisher acknowledged by the Commission of Legal Sciences at the National Council for the Attestation of University Titles, Diplomas and Certificates (CNATDCU) in Romania.
Paper proposals should include the title, an abstract of max. 300 words, 5-7 keywords, and the contact details and affiliation of the author(s). Panel proposals are limited to 4 papers and ought to include: title and short description of the panel; individual papers (titles, abstracts of max. 300 words and 5-7 keywords for each); contact details and affiliation for each author (and potentially for the chair). The acceptance of individual paper and panel proposals is conditional on successful double-blind peer-review. Membership of the international peer-review committee shall only be announced with the final program of the conference.
The deadline for submitting abstracts is 5 August 2023, with notices of acceptance sent out by 5 September 2023. The final paper shall be submitted no later than 15 November 2023. Proposals and any further inquiries can be directed to the organizing team at law.conferences@365.univ-ovidius.ro.
Keynote addresses are to be delivered by Prof. Dr. Frédérique Ferrand (Université Jean Moulin – Lyon 3) and Prof. Robert W. Emerson, J.D. (University of Florida). The former will be the recipient of an honorary doctorate, the conferment ceremony being held during the conference. Confirmed speakers include (alphabetical order): Prof. Dr. Habil. Mircea Dan Bob-Bocșan (Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca), Roxana Dan (judge, Cluj Specialised Tribunal), Patrick Gielen (Secretary of the UIHJ), Prof. Dr. Aída Kemelmajer de Carlucci (Argentina), Prof. Dr. Evelina Oprina (Dimitrie Cantemir University of Bucharest), Duarte Pinto (Ordem dos Solicitadores e dos Agentes de Execução, Portugal), Marc Schmitz (President of the UIHJ), Prof. Dr. Habil. Adrian Stoica (Ovidius University of Constanța), Paulo Teixeira (Ordem dos Solicitadores e dos Agentes de Execução, Portugal), and Mihail Udroiu (judge, Oradea Court of Appeal).
